Quick Bites: Rose + Rye opens next week, Ebrik Coffee Room moves and expands, chef Matt Marcus leaves BlueTop and more

People, get ready. Midtown’s historic landmark we call “the Castle’ opens to the public as Rose + Rye on Tues., Oct. 17. Executive chef Lindsay Owens is part of the all-female leadership team, creating decadent plates of seasonal fare, like snapper with wheatberries and glazed pork belly with gnocchi and apple slaw. The multi-level space will include walls festooned with local art, multiple outdoor patios and terraces, private event space, killer city views and a sexy basement grotto with a floor-to-ceiling rock wall behind the bar. It’s just dinner for now, but lunch begins in November and brunch rolls out in early 2018.
One of our favorite downtown hangouts, Ebrik Coffee Room, is about to get a lot bigger. The shop just completed renovations at the long-shuttered Cutting Edge Beauty School, a large two-story space at the corner of Decatur Street and Park Place, just a few doors down from their current spot. Ebrik plans to close for the weekend and reopen Mon., Oct 16 in their new digs.
Chamblee’s BlueTop, which opened at the end of August, is already seeing some serious changes. The The AJC reported that executive chef Matt Marcus has been terminated due to “unsatisfactory performance.’ Owner Andy Lasky told the AJC that chef de cuisine Paul Sidener will take over as BlueTop’s executive chef.
Attention, OTP beer lovers: Woodstock’s Reformation Brewery is expanding to a second facility in the heart of downtown Woodstock (105 Elm St.), slated for spring of 2018. “The new space will serve as a research and development facility as well as a gathering place for community,’ the brewery said in a press release. The new facility will include a backyard hangout space for drinking and events.
The Porsche Experience Center near the airport is honing in on destination status. Solis Two Porsche Drive Hotel opens next month with two dining experiences. Apron restaurant and bar will have a Mediterranean inspired menu by executive chef Derrick Green and Overdrive Lounge will serve craft cocktails with sweeping rooftop views.
Bar Crema opens this month in Buckhead with Octane’s former director of education, John Fogleman, serving as beverage director. Fogleman is an active participant in Specialty Coffee Barista and Coffee Fest Latte Art competitions ... so expect some very pretty concoctions.
Ever wonder what it would be like to skate on ice ten stories above the ground? In November, the “Skate the Sky’ rink opens on Ponce City Market’s rooftop. Hot toddies are just for adults, but kids are welcome to come and skate. $15 includes skate rental, 50 minutes of skating and a ride to the top of Ponce City Market.
Sage Woodfire Tavern (3050 Windy Hill Rd.) opens in Marietta this coming Thurs., Oct. 19, bringing their signature hickory and oak wood fire grilled proteins, pastas and salads to the corner of Powers Ferry and Windy Hill. The public is welcome to the Cobb Chamber ribbon cutting and grand opening party, beginning at 11 a.m. Karen Handel will be there. The restaurant officially opens to the public at 4 p.m. for dinner service.
