Peter Aman signs on for year two as Atlanta COO

Mayor Kasim Reed signs Peter Aman up for another year as Atlanta chief operating officer

Meaning chief operating officer, of course, which means Mayor Kasim Reed’s right-hand man. You may recall that Shirley Franklin’s primary qualification in running for mayor back in 2001 was her long stint as COO under Andy Young.

Aman is managing partner of the Atlanta office of Bain & Co., a global consulting firm that handles such complex deals as restructuring major corporations. When Franklin was first elected, Aman offered a few months of pro-bono advice on how to make City Hall more efficient and helped produce the fabled Bain Report (PDF), a road map for streamlining city government that’s been held up as a sort of Holy Grail by such groups as the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation.

Anyway, Bain ended up giving Franklin three years of its time and, when Reed was elected, Aman upped his involvement by taking a leave of absence to join the city for a year full-time. Yesterday, at a luncheon held by the Home Builders Association of Georgia, the mayor announced publicly that Aman had signed on for another year.
