Freight rail executives say there’s simply not enough room to accommodate trains carrying cargo and passenger choo choos that Georgia Department of Transportation officials hope will serve the proposed downtown train terminal. Some motorists are very, very angry that the state is lifting the tolls along Georgia 400.
A federal judge yesterday approved a legal settlement between Georgia and South Carolina environmentalists and the states over the deepening of the Port of Savannah, helping to prevent a delay of the $650 million project. The deal includes the Georgia Ports Authority paying “millions of dollars for conservation efforts” - and transferring approximately 2,000 acres of marshland to the Palmetto State.
The Marietta City Council will hold a public hearing tonight to determine whether the Cobb County city should buy out and raze properties along the Franklin Road corridor, which it’s long considered an eyesore. Keep your eyes on this issue.
