Downtown Atlanta
The City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs has assembled a week-long schedule of artistic events in Downtown Atlanta for this year’s Elevate. Things kick off with a block party in the Fairlie-Poplar district on the night of Fri., Oct. 18, and wrap up on Sat., Oct. 26, with French-themed dance performance at the Rialto Center for the Arts. In between, the week will feature everything from a play called Mass Transit Muse, which literally happens on a MARTA ride to Five Points station on Oct. 24 and 25, to “Civil Sound Ecology,†a civil rights-themed walking tour featuring audio and art installations by William Schweigert. Throughout the week, look for Beth Malone’s brilliant neon signs, which will be hung around vacant storefronts in the neighborhood.
