NEWS BRIEF: MARTA’s Artbound & NEXT Atlanta team to launch new art & social change “Movement”

The NEXT Movement highlights Atlanta artists of color fighting for social change with their work.

NEXT Atlanta, a local creative movement with the goal to “galvanizes members of the city’s creative class into a potent force for change,” have announced their newest venture, a collaboration with MARTA’s public art program Artbound dubbed The NEXT Movement.

The new project, an arts and social change campaign, plans to highlight Atlanta’s influential artists of color and amplify their voices even further. Their first team includes Jon Goode (poet and author), Melissa A. Mitchell (visual artist) Okorie ‘OkCello’ Johnson (cellist), Carlos Andres Gomez (poet and author), and CC Sunchild (musician). The selected artists will be featured at NEXT events across the city from through the end of the year.

Katherine Dirga, MARTA Art in Transit Director, had this to say about the collaboration, “Through this partnership with NEXT, MARTA is able to amplify its role as a community connector and an arts leader, engaging Atlantans around the critical issues that affect us most.”
