Savannah sludge-metal trio Black Tusk is on the road again touring in advance of the group’s forthcoming Pillars of Ash LP (out Jan. 29 via Relapse Records). Pillars of Ash is Black Tusk’s fifth album, and the last to feature bass player and vocalist Jonathan Athon, who passed away in 2014 after a fatal motorcycle accident. The show on Sun., Jan. 24, doubles as a showcase of Georgia’s deep and thriving heavy rock scene, as Atlanta-based labelmates Royal Thunder plays a rare local show. The group’s murky approach to heavy rock, psychedelia, and the blues reached new creative and critical heights on last year’s Crooked Doors LP.
