Record thus far: 19-21-2

Daddys really been takin it on the chin lately, going 1-2 on both of my last two nights of picks. Thats how a slightly winning record becomes an embarrassingly losing record, and to quote a great MTV advertisement from a few months back, I deserved to be punched right in my assey-face. Im trying my hardest to end January ...

Record thus far: 18-19-2

Daddy is ready for January to end. With a new month comes a new beginning or just a continuation of the abuse my pride has taken since this columns inception. Be that as it may, Im pretty excited for the Super Bowl on Sunday. Ill try to make good picks until then, when I, along with the rest of the betting world, will gamble way...

Record thus far: 17-17-2

Daddys tired from working all week, and since its Friday hes too drunk to type up long explanations and insight. Here are the picks boom, baby!

1) Denver Nuggets at Utah Jazz OVER 217 points

2) Miami Heat 3.5 at New York Knicks

3) Phoenix Suns 12 at Milwaukee Bucks

Please bet responsibly, although I...

Record thus far: 16-15-2

Perhaps self-deprecation and limited explanation are the keys to success. After I spent a paragraph bitching about myself and then avoided providing any real reason as to why you should trust my bets, Daddy went 3-0 last night! And since Im now going head-to-head against Casey McIntyre and her Mama Needs a New Purse column, please realize...

Alright everybody, the jig is up. I know I had you all fooled with my occasional, over-achieving nights of 2-1 predictions, but after my second 0-3 performance in this columns brief two-week history, I must come clean: I am not a professional gambling tout. I know a lot about sports, but apparently not enough about statistics to...

Record thus far: 13-12-2

In an attempt to save face and protect a winning record, Daddy laid off the bets this weekend. After crying myself to sleep last night realizing either Peyton Manning or the Chicago Bears, both of whom I dislike, will win a Super Bowl, I woke up refreshed and ready to bet. In honor of Carmelo Anthony rejoining my Denver Nuggets after a 15-game...

Daddy apologizes for not posting last night, but I was busy harnessing all of my energy into praying that Brad would win the Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel finals. Unfortunately, Brad lost and I once again feel as though God doesnt care. Oh well, back to sports talk. On Jan....

Ouch, Daddy bent over and took it without Vaseline last night, going 0-3! In an attempt to comfort myself - since I couldnt sleep - I started digging through some old pictures and notebooks in my room, and I stumbled across a college notebook from my history of Western philosophy class. I...

Daddy advises all of you to strike while the iron is hot. For the first time since this columns inception, I did not lose a single game last night! (Sure, I pushed one, but thats still not a loss, ya smartass.) If gambling has taught me anything, its that my success probably wont...

Yesterday I claimed that I would make a comeback with the football picks and I did just that, going 2-0 on the gridiron. There is a tendency among geeks to compare the video game industry to the entertainment behemoth affectionately known as Hollywood. But where, we ask, is the game that truly shows American culture at its worst? Where is the game so crappy that you have to play it? In short, where is the Plan 9 from Outer Space of video games? It happens from time to time, and when it does, you're never quite prepared. A great game can hit you like a 250-pound linebacker at a full sprint. There's just something about giant robots battling in outer space as the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance that brings out the true geek in me. Recently, due to the vagaries of the videogame release schedule, we've had to review a lot of movie tie-in games. It hasn't exactly been fun. Movie tie-in games tend to be short, wreck the movie by giving away plot elements, and ultimately make you feel like you wasted your money. While all of that is true for Activision's new Fantastic 4 game, it's actually better than one would assume from... | more...

1/2The universe is vast and, when you think about it objectively, it seems pretty likely that it's only a matter of time before humanity is attacked by a race of slimy, green, betenticled aliens intent on eating our skeletons. Videogame developers seem particularly concerned about the possibility, and many of the industry's most popular titles and franchises put players in the role of Earth's... | more...

Batman BeginsGeeks have spent years waiting for a decent Batman game, or at least for one that didn't suck, and the developers at EA have finally heard the cry. Their answer, Batman Begins, is a decent game as movie-based games go, but unfortunately, not good enough to make you stop longing for a decent Batman game.

Essentially, this is a linear stealth game, with a neat (and all too short)...

The Napoleonic era seems to be getting a lot of attention these days, and perhaps that's not so odd considering that 2005 marks the 200th anniversary of Adm. Nelson's historic victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. Odd or not, though, it is nice to see. The 19th century was an amazingly interesting period in military history, and war gaming geeks should celebrate any new title set in this period.... | more...

You've likely seen the commercials for European Assault, the latest in the Medal of Honor franchise, and thought for a fleeting moment that this video game might actually help you to understand the Allies' heroism in World War II. Relax. This game doesn't do that. It is pretty fun, however, even despite all its limitations.

European Assault is a fairly standard first-person shooter in the...

The PSP version of MVP Baseball looks so good and plays so bad it's like having bad sex with a supermodel - you may look really good doing it, but don't count on having a whole hell of a lot of fun.
