For those who didn’t know, SATELLITE RECORDS used to be an actual satellite, one of an East Coast chain of dance music vinyl stores. Now, however, Satellite is locally owned and operated, and doubly proud to be the shop around which both bleary-eyed bedroom DJs and transient transatlantic superstar jocks can be found. From humble beginnings in the basement of Wish to its current Moreland Avenue storefront, Satellite has remained the spot for record spinners, or just to spin through to pick up flyers for the week’s hawt happenings.

Crowded into a narrow space in the heart of Little Five Points, WAX ‘N’ FACTS is home to thousands of vinyl records, new and used CDs, imports, DVDs, music magazines and posters. This is as close to an old-fashioned record store as you’ll likely ever see because the emphasis is on used, new and collectible records. The staff knows its stuff; there’s no searchable database or website of any kind. Proprietor Danny Beard has been selling records for longer than many of his customers have been alive, and he still takes the time to actively support the music scene.

Why guess which labels crank out the good stuff when you can ask the DJs who “daylight” at SATELLITE RECORDS? Longtime manager and electronic music guru Greg Adamson is gone, but Kai, Haze and the rest of the gang are experts in their respective genres. You can go from the sleeve to the needle in store and get a sample high from its supply, headphones included. It’s not like record shopping in NYC or overseas, but something’s right when all the kiddies in town for the latest massive miss their continental breakfast for a trip to this L5P staple. “421 Moreland Ave. 404-880-9746. www.satelliterecords.comless...

L5P is overrun by Midtown mommas now, but there was a time when freaks and geeks ruled the roost, and it wasn’t for a night of fashion-conscious clubbing when they went shopping for vinyl. L5P is overrun by Midtown mommas now, but there was a time when freaks and geeks ruled the roost, and it wasn’t for a night of fashion-conscious clubbing when they went shopping for vinyl. WAX N FACTS remembers. Fact is, Wax N Facts’ encyclopedic collective of clerks remembers just about everything about those shiny black platters with their slick sleeves and warm grooves. While more specialized storefronts - Earwax for hip-hop, Satellite for electronic/dance and Stickfigure Distro for hardcore - may eclipse certain niches, when it comes to the widest most up-to-date selection of records on record, Wax N Facts is still the place to go when the vinyl you crave is not that worn. Remember that. “Wax N Facts, 432 Moreland Ave., 404-525-2275.” less...
