Largely responsible for the success of Shawn Mullins and, most recently, John Mayer, EDDIE’S ATTIC remains an integral outlet for Atlanta’s folk/unplugged scene. Though its revered namesake, Eddie Owen, sold the club earlier this year, new owner Todd Van Sickle (husband of local singer and Attic regular Jennifer Nettles) hasn’t changed much. With its all-ages shows, open mics, amateur nights, and locals-only showcases, the intimate, smoke-free club welcomes local talent while serving as a preferred stop for national acts like Martin Sexton, Kate Campbell and John Wesley Harding. “515-B N. Because it’s a listening room. It’s quiet, you can hear everything. For indie stuff, I like the Echo Lounge best, because it’s a good room. It reminds me of the old Uptown Lounge in Athens. They have a proper stage, lights and sound. And a good dressing room. That’s the one I would play at and go to more often. As far as the Indigo Girls, the Fox Theatre is my favorite. It may be a little small, but you can play a few nights there. Chastain Park, you have a decibel limit and people talk, there’s nothing you can do about it. ... But Emily likes playing there and she feels like it’s so much better when we play there. But I probably wouldn’t go to a show there. less...

Eddie’s still does national and local acoustic music right and doesn’t take its only-game-in-town status for granted. With its comfy acoustics, smoke-free atmosphere and early all-ages shows, the Decatur spot exudes low-key charm. And when’s the last time you went to a music venue with food this tasty? More importantly, Eddie’s maintains close ties to the community, hosting numerous benefits for local musicians and Atlanta causes. There are precious few professionally run clubs for national acoustic/folk/bluegrass touring artists to play in Atlanta, but the long-standing, PC, smoke-free Eddie’s Attic doesn’t rest on its laurels. The pristine sound, clean facilities, remarkably good food and congenial staff make the artists and patrons feel at home. The music room’s limited seating can be a detriment if you get there late, but the club exudes a warm, comfy atmosphere perfectly in sync with its predominantly unplugged roster. less...
