The blues is all about payin' dues, right? If that's the case, then the members of DELTA MOON should be blues masters by now. And, by golly, they are. Riding high on the recent release of "Goin' Down South", Gina Leigh and her multi-instrumentalist cohorts, including Tom Gray - formerly of '80s new wave combo the brains - and Mark Johnson, have played together since the late '90s. Now Delta Moon is hotter than ever, spreading its infectious blend of traditional and modern blues all over the U.S. and abroad. "www.deltamoon.com"

Delta Moon__
DELTA MOON, anchored by vocalist Gina Leigh and guitarists Tom Gray and Mark Johnson, bring a fresh, funky edge to a repertoire of mostly-pre-WWII blues and folk classics and originals. Leigh is kinetic, a wise-cracking, often barefooted free spirit, propelled by the interplay of dark, sinewy lap-slide lines of Dobro aficionado Gray (former bandleader of The Brains) and crisp, articulate replies from Johnson. The recent addition of an outstanding new rhythm section (John McKnight, drums and Jon Schwenke, bass) seals the deal.

One could argue, persuasively, that King Johnson is not a blues band at all, but blues is in fact one of the band's core elements, along with funk, R&B and a fat dose of New Orleans spice. Further, KJ sprang from the blues club scene, performing frequently at Chip's in Winder and the Northside Tavern. From those roots, the band has evolved to create a singular identity and sound that supports witty, musically intriguing songwriting. The band's latest CD release, "Luck So Strange", captures their unique attributes in all their glory.
