Last week, The Masquerade put an end to speculation regarding the longstanding music venue’s future by unveiling a two-month plan to relocate to the Westside. An official press release issued by the venue on Wed., June 22 pinpoints the second annual Wrecking Ball ATL festival, held Aug. 13-14, as the 695 North Ave. location’s final weekend. The former Excelsior Mill building has hosted the club since 1989. By 2018, the building will be re-purposed as a $60 million mixed-used development called North + Line.

A one-story industrial building located at 1421 Fairmont Ave. is being remodeled to host a new Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory by the weekend following the Wrecking Ball. The venue’s website lists a Fri., Aug. 19 edition of Torch, a monthly drum and bass music night, as the new Masquerade location’s first scheduled event.

The new location adds to the heightened presence of live music and the arts on the Westside, anchored now by the Goat Farm Arts Center, Northside Tavern, and Terminal West. The venue will still be adjacent to pricey urban development, with a 36-home housing development called West Town being constructed next door by Marietta-based Brock Built.
