— NSFW Over the weekend, Hazmat Magazine rolled out its debut episode of “Hazmat TV,” featuring a rad interview with local “murder thrash” provocateurs Sadistic Ritual. The video also includes a performance of the song “Merciless Retribution” live at the Drunken Unicorn. One thing, though: if spliced-in footage of animals eating other animals sounds like something you’re not too stoked about watching press pause or avert your eyes around the six minute mark.
— Executive producers Metro Boomin, and DJ Esco (along with, Southside, Zaytoven, Moon and DJ Spins) teamed up to roll out Future’s Purple Reign, a new, 13-track mixtape for the New Year.
— Donald Glover, the executive producer, writer, and star of FX’s forthcoming series Atlanta talks to Deadline about his return to television, and a show that’s all about creative types coping with failure in the shadow of success. Hmmm …
— The Subsonics, tonight (Mon., Jan. 18), make a rare local appearance at 529. Debbey Richardson of Magic Bone makes an even more rare appearance on stage, followed by a DJ set from Jared Swilley of Black Lips.
— Dr. Conspiracy kicked off the weekend by releasing his latest collection of psychedelic, post-hip instrumentals, Nuclear Mysticism. Cop that tape before they all get got.
— Check out a Q&A with burgeoning West End punk trio Blue Tower, who will be launching the Live at Taang! Records Music Lounge split singles series this year. — ICYMI, Slang just released a self-titled LP, and it’s available for streaming via Bandcamp, and for purchase if you feel like spending $1000? — Savannah sludge-metal group Black Tusk is streaming a track from its latest LP, Pillars of Ash, over on Consequence Of Sound. The song is titled “Desolation of Endless Times,” and is one of the final numbers written by late bassist Jon Athon. Black Tusk plays the Earl on Sat., Jan. 24, with Royal Thunder and Bask.
— More post-punk in Atlanta is never a bad thing! Flower is streaming two tracks from the group’s upcoming LP Waste of Life. You can listen to “Dreams” over at Immersive Atlanta and “Let Me Down” over at Under The Gun.
— Chicago shoegazers Lume impressed earlier this year on a WonderRoot show with Pallow, John Galm, and Gordan. The band just released its latest LP, Perennial Phase, and plays 529 on Fri., Feb. 12, with Big Jesus and Mighty.
