Yani Mo takes you on a ride through ‘Vine City’

Yani Mo plays the Flaky Niece Fest 2 on Sat., May 14.

Yani Mo has the voice of a soul queen as she soars over jazz-inflected hip-hop beats while hitting up I-20 and heading toward the West End. It’s a drive the Lithonia native has no doubt made countless times. “Vine City” is a club track in the spirit of the Ramones short, sharp narratives; the song clocks in under two minutes and leaves you wanting way more.

Directed by Ollie Jukebox, the video cuts from shots of city streets that can bring so much stress to forested shots which serve as a remind of the relief the shade this tree-filled city provides. Like the Amethyst stone and peppermint oil she invokes in the song — one to protect from poison and the other for pain relief — “Vine City” offers a soothing remedy for hot summer days, and inspire hope for cool and blissful Summer nights.

Yani Mo plays the Flaky Niece Fest 2 on Sat., May 14. With Slang, Man Up, Yancey, Sea Ghost, Femignome, Mad Ace. $10 (donation). 8 p.m. The Drunken Unicorn, 736 Ponce De Leon Ave S.E.
