5 Play: Big Gipp is ‘Mr. Get Down’

Oh, and Ludacris is back (kind of), and OG’s EP arrives

Big Gipp — Mr. Get Down
Big Gipp was in a giving mood this past Thursday and blessed the interwebs with a mixtape, Mr. Get Down. The latest release from the Goodie Mob “mutant” finds Gipp simultaneously embracing and breaking away from his group’s lyrical consciousness and his own rap/futuristic funk fusion on previous solo projects. Download it here.

Nappy Roots — “Facts”
Nappy Roots closes out their Something’s Gotta Give campaign of free music Friday’s with this Kato-produced single. “Facts” finds Skinny DeVille and Fishscales waxing poetic about their frustration with other MC’s being lyrically disingenuous about the lifestyle of a professional musician.

Goldyard — “OohhIKnow”
audio-1
ICYMI: Goldyard actually sent over two new tracks this week. We premiered “You See It” earlier this week, and to close things out, here is “OohIKnow.” The G’yard boys get their EDM on with this one. In related news, I caught up with In-Doe and A.T. ahead of their recent show at Mammal Gallery, and they previewed the majority of Fuck Culture 2. As of right now, the project has 16 songs, eight more than its predecessor, and it’s indeed darker in tone, but more cohesive overall. Be on the lookout for FC2.

OG Maco — OG Maco (EP)

OG Maco told the FADER: “This tape is a culmination of every failure and lesson it ever took to achieve victory with my team, with my family and for the world.” It also proves that contrary to what you might think of the “U Guessed It” MC, he doesn’t always have to shout to capture your attention and get his point across.

Ludacris — “Hood Billionaire” Freestyle
This dude used to be one of my favorite rappers, and somewhere between doing movies, having mixed success as a restaurateur, and making headhphones, I lost track of him. Well, Ludacris has been dropping some jewels as part of his #LudaVerses campaign to support the forthcoming Ludaversal EP. Here’s the latest in which the OG Chris Lova Lova freestyles over Rick Ross’ “Hood Billionaire.” The sleeping lyrical giant awakens!
