Faun and a Pan Flute unveils ‘John,’ preps for Lakewoodstock

Big things are happening with Faun, the Cleaners, and the South Atlanta music scene.

This week, Faun and a Pan Flute rolled out a new video for “John,” taken from the group’s self-titled LP released last summer via Mission Trips. Directed by Derek King and Michael Wiley of Rock and Egg Productions, the video is a psychedelic moving picture steeped in an exaggerated fascination with the natural world. Things of extreme beauty contrast with things of extreme darkness, and there’s a vague swords to plowshares theme at work here — maybe. Or in this case, it’s scissors to plowshares. What does it all mean? The video seems to be pretty open-ended in its surrealistic ways, and it’s awfully easy on the eyes.

More news arrived this week, as the lineup for the upcoming Lakewoodstock festival found its way onto the Internet. Fifteen bands, including Bunny, Salsa Chest, Dux, Nows, Basketball Movie, Ginko, Palm Lines, Max Boecker, Clothes, Midnight Larks, Satisfiers of Alpha Blue, Danny!, Hello Ocho, Lonnie Holley, and Faun and a Pan Flute will spread out over three stages at the Cleaners — one stage curated by Elizabeth Jarrett of Deer Bear Wolf, another curated by Adam Babar of Faun and a Pan Flute. The third stage’s lineup is a group effort.

The festival’s mission, according to Faun guitarist Danny Bailey, is to establish a relationship with Lakewood Heights’ community’s organizers, which he sees as an essential step for the future of the Cleaners. “They have been supportive of the idea,” Bailey says. “Ideally both sides can benefit from the relationship. I’m hoping Lakewood Heights’ residents come out. I want for this to be something they enjoy rather than an annoyance. We want to give people a new and memorable experience. The whole property will undergo a surface level makeover for the evening. I’m envisioning a romantic environment. We won’t be selling alcohol. I’m hoping people don’t get too wasted.”

Lakewoodstock takes place at the Cleaners on Sat., Aug. 1. The show is free and open to all ages. The music starts at 6 p.m. 1714 Jonesboro Road S.E.
