? Most people take the day off on their birthday, or at least let somebody else do the party planning. Multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Bützer, however, pulls double duty for his 36th birthday bash, as two of his bands, the Compartmentalizationists and the Bicycle Eaters, perform at the Star Bar tonight (Thurs., Oct. 22). With the Bicycle Eaters, Bützer breaks out the accordion, piano and various percussive instruments to create exotically cinematic sounds. The surf guitar-driven Compartmentalizationists, who released the Sutures album last month, retain Bützer’s anachronism with a slightly more traditional rock approach. Additional performances by Bruce Joyner and Atomic Clock, Ninja Puppet Productions and DJ Rod Hamdallah help Bützer celebrate his special day.
