On Thurs., May 15, the Drunken Unicorn is hosting a #SaveWRAS benefit show featuring performances by Twin Studies, Imagination Head, the Marrows, and Book of Colors. The benefit show, organized by Mikey Johnson, aka Music For People, is on a mission to raise funds to pay for fliers, banners, billboards, website ads, and anything else to further the campaign to keep the public’s eye on the situation surrounding GPB’s takeover of WRAS’ daytime programming. “This is the first station where I ever heard my own music being played on the air,” Johnson says. “How many people will no longer be able to tune in and have the same experience. I’ve been listening since I was in high school,” Johnson adds. “I used to record ‘The 12-inch Show’ on cassette tapes and share it with friends. I really learned about a lot of music on WRAS.”

Johnson, who booked the benefit show independently of WRAS’ invovlement, says that his incentive is purely to save his favorite radio station.

“I started the ‘Save My WRAS’ page as a knee-jerk reaction, and because I was mad,” Johnson adds. “I’m now doing it because I have read countless e-mails and comments on the page that are frustrated and want a voice. I’m not even that fond of Facebook. I’m the guy on Google+, but I’m doing what I can.”
