The ContraVerse brings left-leaning hip-hop to East ATL

The ContraVerse, Hangman, and Last of the Horsemen play 529 tonight (Wed., Jan. 23)

Tonight’s show at 529 features performances by two local acts that have left an indelible mark on Atlanta’s experimental hip-hop scene. Emcees Obeah and Kontent, aka the ContraVerse, play in support of their latest release, Inoculate. It’s an album that shows signs of veering away from the duo’s sample-heavy earlier offerings, and moving toward a more polished sound that pushes their rhymes from being simply cerebral to truly thoughtful. Calling themselves an ‘experimental non-profit hip-hop collective,’ WAKE will presumably perform some of their tenderly produced tracks (perhaps one that features a collaboration with the ContraVerse).

?
Savannah’s Hangman and Nashville’s Last of the Horsemen also perform.

?
In the meantime, give a listen to The ContraVerse’s “Expect Results” (feat. Gift of Gab).
