Transit, I hardly knew ye

Transit, the long-running drum and bass night at the Mark Ultralounge, will soon be no more. Anthony Rotella, aka Mayhem, the ringmaster behind the 404 Audio crew and record store, made the announcement last month. Since I haven’t paid much attention to jungle music since the late ’90s, I didn’t learn of Transit’s premature demise until a few days ago. I’ve never been to an event, but I have to respect 404 Audio’s hustle — it brought many of the genre’s top players to Atlanta, from DJ Hive (who headlined June 7) to Photek. Last year, Transit earned a CL Best of Atlanta award for Best Weekly Club Night.

The final Transit party takes place July 5 at the Mark. Ironically, the night is also Transit’s three-year anniversary. The lineup hasn’t been announced yet. “This is absolutely not one to miss and will go down in typical anniversary format,” writes Mayhem in a post on the 404 Audio MySpace page. “Please try your best to come out and support these final nights as I want to leave on the most positive note that we can!”
