Janelle Monáe sheds her signature tuxedo in ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’

On the heels of her brilliant new single, “Q.U.E.E.N.,” Janelle Monáe has now unveiled the song’s extended music video.

The six-minute flick opens inside a sterile museum. An automated woman paints the scene and describes the room as a place where “legendary rebels throughout history have been frozen in suspended animation” - including Monáe and her supporting Wondaland cast. Once the song begins, they break out from a deep freeze and straight into the retro-funk track. Monáe pulls out all the stops throughout the rest of the video, recruiting neo-soulstress Erykah Badu for a guest appearance and finishing with an epic rap verse. She also sports several different looks, including her iconic tight-fitting suit as well as several others we’re less accustomed to seeing.
