NOTED ACTS

AMANDA JONES, MIKE ILL — Local girl group bounces back into action once again after too long a hiatus. They’ve got a new guitarist aboard, making her debut with the group at this show, where they’ve promised to kick some serious butt. One butt well worth kicking belongs to Mike Ill, a practitioner of “punk/blues,” who’s currently in the midst of what he’s calling his “Sleazy Summer Tour.” For a taste of Ill’s acoustic rebel ballads (and to see a photo of his penis) pick up a copy of Ill’s book/CD The Antifolk Road Manual. Rubber gloves are recommended. Club 513 (Nicoll)

ATLANTIS MUSIC CONFERENCE — See articles.

BORDERS MIDTOWN GRAND OPENING — Sure, it’s one of the big corporate megastores that are driving small independent booksellers out of business. Yes, the new Midtown location (next to the new Home Depot, across from City Hall East on Ponce) is terribly disappointing in the way it brings suburban anti-pedestrian strip-mall design to the city. Damn right you’re going to go there regularly, what with its selection, convenient location and bevy of free events, including this weekend’s grand-opening celebration. The fun starts tonight with performances by Bill Mallonee and the Vigilantes of Love (5:30 p.m.) and Sonia of acoustic duo Disappear Fear. Borders Midtown (Sarig)

BRAND NEW IMMORTALS, SLANGBANGER — David Ryan Harris and company are still cookin’ that hard-rock vibe ‘til the charred carcass of rock ‘n’ roll is left to die on the grill. Or something like that. Slangbanger, formerly known as Fatcat, brings the lighter fluid to ignite the flame. Smith’s Olde Bar (Smith)
