TUES/FEBRUARY 27
ACEYALONE, EDO.G, RASCO — See Show ‘n’ tell with Aceyalone. Also on the bill as part of the Ground Control Allstars Tour, Boston’s underground rap veteran EdO.G., West Coast rap hero Rasco and the Masterminds. MJQ Concourse (Sarig)
DAVID BUICE — In an interesting but somewhat bizarre multimedia-savvy event, harpsichordist David Buice performs the favored selections of novelist Thomas Harris’ uber-villian, Hannibal Lecter. Apparently, the literary forerunner of Anthony Hopkins’s cinematic character has a taste for the harpsichord, specifically works by Bach, Forqueray, Scarlatti, Mozart and others. Buice is joined by guest vocalist Josef Buffaloe in this event, aimed at making a usually esoteric genre suitable for “popular consumption” (raise pinky-nail to corner of mouth). Oglethorpe University Museum of Art (Hutchinson)
FUEL — 99X radio favorites Fuel return yet again, this time to headline the station’s Fat Tuesday concert, a benefit for the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Fund. These alt-rockers are trying to see if they can continue to fuel careers with disposable radio hits. Catchy, sure. Like a disease. Crazytown and Oleander also play. Tabernacle (Ware)
WEEZER — Despite a name that suggests geriatric theatrics, Weezer happen to be one of the most energetic, culturally shrewd and skewed bands of the ’90s. And on this Yahoo! Outloud tour they should be energetic; they’ve been resting for five years. Now out to road test the new material that will comprise their (hopefully) soon-to-be-released third album, the band will undoubtedly please with peppy hits from their first self-titled album, darker jabs from their second, ‘96’s Pinkerton, and hopefully some catchy b-sides with maybe a cover song thrown in for good measure. Emo-pop opening act the Get Up Kids will also have some new songs to test out, though they can’t go wrong with relying on the crowd-pleasing material on their last album, Something to Write Home About. Sure, this is like their third trip through Athens in the last six months, but I’ve yet to see them play for an audience that wasn’t jumping up and down enthusiastically. With two albums, Eps and the new songs plus Replacements and New Order covers, among others, the Get Up Kids have enough material to switch things up a bit. Except the energy level this night. It couldn’t get any higher. Classic Center/Athens (Ware)
