TREY ANASTASIO — Touring solo during Phish’s self-imposed hiatus, guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Anastasio treats fans to more of what they get with Phish. More jazz, more fusion, more funk and more covers. Reports from the road have his trio venturing into musical realms to which even they are strangers. Overly serious furrowed brows and hushed crowds are replaced with ecstatic smiles and pops of applause. As a guitarist, Anastasio is unmatched by his contemporaries. Those lucky enough to score tickets will witness something powerful and rare at this, the last show of the tour. Fox Theatre (Prusin)
CONCERT2CURE — See article. CJ’s Landing (Kelly)
THE JOURNEY OF SIR DOUGLAS FIR — The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (with chorus) perform the world orchestral premiere of this Grammy-endorsed children’s musical about a Douglas fir tree, blown over by a storm, that achieves a surprising destiny. Woodruff Arts Center (Ware)
ROBBY KRIEGER — Doors guitarist Robby Krieger, who wrote “Light My Fire,” is burning a path across America to celebrate the release of his solo album, Cinematix, and The Doors — special edition DVD. Brandyhouse (Ware)
MASTODON, PG. 99, WAIFFLE, MAJORITY RULES — Locals Mastodon drop their heavy set of stones for all to see right from the very start and never tuck ‘em back in. Chugging, growling, barreling low-end with white-hot guitar and astounding drums. Waiffle kicks around plenty of ominous, dense, slightly dissonant hardcore/thrash/metal/grind energy. Similarly, Pg. 99 chop up various feral styles to deftly avoid the numbing effect, from black nastiness to (comparatively) harmonious grooves. Under the Couch (Foy)
TROUBLETOWN BENEFIT FOR THE BUSH BROTHERS — Kristen Hall, fresh from headlining Eddie’s, returns to participate in a benefit for Bush. No, not “W,” but the Bush Brothers. Their studio burned in December, fire destroying a great amount of their equipment and instruments. Tonight, singer/songwriter/guitarist Kristian Bush, of Billy Pilgrim, and his younger brother Brandon, a keyboardist and percussionist, are joined by Kodac Harrison, Wakeman and Willner and several others for an all-star evening. A $10 donation is collected at the door. Eddie’s Attic (Smith)
