Sound Menu July 11 2001 Tues

CELTIC TUESDAY WITH THE BORDER COLLIES — Eddie’s Attic continues its monthly Celtic Series with a show by the Border Collies, a local sextet comprising guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle, bodhran, whistle and percussion. They’ll perform at 8 p.m., followed by a Celtic music jam that’s open to the audience. Bring your tin whistles and Uillean pipes — admission’s free if you come with an instrument. Eddie’s Attic (Nicoll)

SEAGRAM’S HIP-HOP TOUR — Bring your own juice to help dull Seagram’s idea of a good night of hip-hop. Mystikal will want to see what you’re working with, Ginuwine will want to “bone on the couch” and Jaheim, an up-and-coming balladeer, will just want to get your attention. The highlight, no doubt, will be the local boys, So So Def’s multi-platinum R&B man group Jagged Edge. Their brand new album, Jagged Little Thrill, rolls along with the smoothness of a freshly paved highway. Featuring guest appearances by Nelly and Ludacris, the release is yet another step in the evolution of the hip-hop savvy, next generation school of R&B acts. For those who can’t get enough of their holy matrimony anthems, J.E. even included a single, “Best Man,” to piggyback on the success of last year’s hit, “Let’s Get Married”. Fox Theatre (Whitaker/Hutchinson)

YELLOWJACKETS — One of the most enduring acts in contemporary jazz, the Yellowjackets have been riffing on the smooth fusion tip for over two decades. While susceptible to the sometimes clinical, airy trappings of the contemporary jazz genre, there’s no denying the impressive pairing of virtuosity and accessibility that have kept this act on top for so long. Sambuca Jazz Café (Hutchinson)
