THE CULT, MONSTER MAGNET — The only show currently scheduled for this venue oughta be an obnoxiously loud, in-your-face, guitar rock blowout, especially without the pretentious Stabbing Westward who have left the tour. The recently revived Cult (see Record Reviews, p. 98) are a lean, mean, rockin’ machine, and New Jersey’s Monster Magnet are just mean, whipping off their raw proto-prog/space-blues like a pissed-off, sex-charged Deep Purple. Unapologetically crass, both bands deliver a sonic wallop to the crotch. Also on the bill is Lennon Murphy (see Record Reviews, p. 98). DeKalb Atlanta Center (Horowitz)

ROCK IN THE RAW — A proposed monthly meeting of minds, this show features five artists collaborating on each other’s material. Together now are Cowboy Mouth guitarist John Thomas Griffin, formerly of the Red Rockers; guitarist Kevin Crow of Soup; Shane Hines of Ode To Abbey; Shelley, known for her appearance on Shawn Mullin’s Soul’s Core album; and former Drifting Through frontman Randall Kirsch. Smith’s Olde Bar (Smith)

KATE SIMPKINS — Former 45 Mercy member Simpkins’ unique mix of folk and cool grooves is a breath of fresh air in a sometimes stagnant scene. Actually, Simpkins makes her own scene by refusing to bow to the status quo of current acoustic trends. A thankfully different and intelligent take on the girl-with-guitar performance. Red Light Café (Smith)
