BLACK EYED PEAS, MYSTIC — Multicultural hip-hoppers Black Eyed Peas follow in the footsteps of De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest with organically grown hip-hop that can uplift the booty, raise the spirits and elevate the mind (see Will.i.am in Record Reviews, p. 97). Oakland’s Mystic is a highly liberated, lyrical and literate rhymer who, when it’s called for, can go from croon to coarse in the length of a verse without disrupting the flow. Roxy (Ware)

BEULAH — See Record Reviews. Echo Lounge (Robertson)

DYSRHYTHMIA — This Philly-based trio looks fairly young, but you wouldn’t know it listening to their chops. Impressive wizardry with plenty of bounce and amperage. If you were ever looking for the bridge between mathrock and classic rock, here it is. Eyedrum (Foy)

JUDAS PRIEST — See Flashback. Dekalb Atlanta Center (Ware)

TOM TOM CLUB — Former Talking Heads rhythm section Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth are still creating the same sort of irresistible beats and ersatz hooks which made their Tom Tom Club side project one of the most frequently sampled acts in recording history. Touring behind a cheerfully diverse new CD, The Good, the Bad and the Funky, they’re backed up onstage by an impressively talented roster of world-class vocalists and players. Cotton Club (Nicoll)
