FLATHEAD MIKE AND THE MERCURYS — A high-octane local trio, Flathead Mike and the Mercs play unchained psychobilly in the smokin’ tradition of the Reverend Horton Heat. Frontman Mike (whose mile-high pompadour is anything but flat) cites Megadeth and Carl Perkins uppermost among his musical influences, which gives an accurate impression of this band’s sizzling sensibility. Star Bar (Nicoll)

THE LUXURY KINGS — Decatur’s destination for Cajun cuisine has been upping the profile of its live music bookings recently. Among the regular events going down in Ya-Ya’s music hall is the Wednesday night Blues Invitational, hosted by local blues band the Luxury Kings. Each week, the Kings invite a fellow member of the Atlanta Blues Society to join them for a jam. Featured tonight is Brent Cashman. Ya-Ya’s Cajun Cuisine (Sarig)

THE RIPPINGTONS — For almost 15 years, Russ Freeman’s ever-changing combo has effectively delivered the smooth jazz goods. The band’s chops are impeccable as they spice their gooey ear-candy with tropical rhythms and enough flashy showmanship to provide a crowd-pleasing, if hardly ground-breaking, evening of tight, yuppie-approved, easy-listening fusion. Variety Playhouse (Horowitz)
