BRIZZ — If there is one impressive attribute to be found in this hip hop/rock outfit from Orlando, it’s that they manage to be bad in so many different ways. Think commercial punk meets commercial hip-hop at an audition for a Pepsi commercial. At a strip mall. Riviera (Hutchinson)

CURSIVE, SORRY ABOUT DRESDEN, JET BY DAY — Nebraska attacks, as two Saddle Creek bands — Cursive and Sorry About Dresden (the latter now based in North Carolina) — bring their emotional indie rock to Georgia. Cursive marry fiery tales of discordant relationships to dissonant instrumental prowess, making honesty a truly in-your-face experience. Sorry About Dresden play the poppier side of things, recalling Superchunk with a more mature melodic approach. And Athens’ Jet By Day add their more distorted, metallic emo. 40 Watt Club/Athens (Ware)

LIFER — Locked in a musky musical cell, Lifer drags its warped metal feed-cup back and forth across the bars, hoping someone will hear. While occasionally working an inspired rhythmic approach, this cranky five-piece too often falls back on hardcore conventions — the hoarse panicked scream gives way to the lush harmonized hook gives way to the complex heavy breakdown. Masquerade (Hutchinson)
