Sound Menu January 02 2002 Tues
DAVID RYAN HARRIS & FRIENDS — As convincing a soulful folkie as hard rock vocalist in his full-time Brand New Immortals, the multi-faceted Harris’ brooding melodic songs and rich, velvety voice really resonate in a comfy, carpeted, candlelit club. He’s also one of the most well-connected musicians in town, so it’s a good bet his “friends” will be worth checking out. Smith’s Olde Bar (Horowitz)
ELVIS’ BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION W/KINGSIZED — Didn’t get that yummy Live in Las Vegas box set for Christmas? Not to worry, Kingsized delivers a mini-version of the “late Elvis” Vegas experience, complete with horn section, female backing singers and a grand finale “American Trilogy.” Mike Gier’s got the pipes, the songs and the loungy stage presence to make it all come alive, at least for an hour. Sequined white jump suit and free scarves not included. Star Bar (Horowitz)
