Sharp Notes August 19 2000

It ain’t Macbeth, but producer Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs, who has worked with divas TLC, Destiny’s Child, Mariah Carey and various LaFace acts, has entered into an exclusive joint-venture label and production deal with Arista Records. Briggs will head the as-yet-unnamed label and will serve as an A&R consultant and staff producer for Arista. This is the first major venture spearheaded by the label’s new head, Antonio “L.A.” Reid.

No goody two-shoes. Atlanta’s Goodie Mob will contribute a track to the new Spike Lee movie, Bamboozled. They will be sharing soundtrack space with Canibus, Chuck D, Common, Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu and Prince.

Angel hearts. The Brand New Immortals will be donating the proceeds of their current single, “Reasons Why,” to the non-profit organization Angel Flight. This is the same organization that 99X has chosen to be the recipient of the profits from the radio station’s Big Day Out show. And to round things out, BNI’s Brendan O’Brien-produced CD can only be purchased through the 99X website. Angel Flight is a volunteer pilot association that provides free air transportation to America’s health care agencies and blood banks.
