Sharp Notes December 16 2000

In a highly unusual move, the horn-fueled League of Decency was forced to pull their distinctive, swinging cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Manic Depression” from their new Jump Yer Bones release at the request of the Experience Hendrix organization. It seems Jimi’s sister-in-law, who heads the organization, didn’t dig their rearranged brassy version. Wonder what she thinks of Devo’s take of “Are You Experienced?”Jeff Holt, ex of Silent Kids and the Christine Keeler Affair, has a new band intriguingly named Space Crime Quintet. Check them out Dec. 16 on WRAS 88.5’s Georgia Music Show.
The always outrageous Impotent Sea Snakes found their tour with the Misfits, Murphy’s Law and Primitive Reason abruptly cut short when their bus literally blew up outside of Barstow, Nev. The band’s props and elaborate costumes, plus a 10-foot pet boa constrictor named Junior, were all left in a smoldering heap in the desert. One member of the 15-person crew was hospitalized and released, but damage to the trashed tour bus and equipment is estimated at a whopping $250,000. Wonder what might’ve caused that? A new album, Everything Is Excess, is set for a March 2001 release.
