Sharp Notes December 23 2000

Atlanta's most famous duo of harmonizing Orthodox Jewish twins Evan & Jaron did the MTV "TRL" screaming-teen gig recently, where they played their potential soon-to-be-hit, "Crazy for This Girl."
The Indigo Girls' Amy Ray will release her first solo album, Stag, on her own label, Daemon Records. Produced by ex-dB Chris Stamey and David Barbe, the disc features backup from local luminaries the Rock*A*Teens as well as Danielle Howle, Joan Jett, Kate Schellenbach (Luscious Jackson) and Josephine Wiggs (The Breeders). Look for a March release with a tour to follow.
Athens' Five Eight is featured on NPR's "All Things Considered" in late December. Songwriter Mike Mantione chats about the band's album, The Good Nurse, which deals with mental health and the need for professional care to treat psychological problems. Sounds like MTV is their next stop. Though the air date for the segment has not been finalized, you can get updates at www.deepelm.com/bands/index_five.html. "All Things Considered" airs at 4 p.m. on WABE 90.1 FM.
