Sharp Notes February 10 2001

When Dove’s fly. Atlanta’s Christian rockers Third Day were nominated for no less than seven Dove awards including the categories of best group, best artist and best rock song. The Dove awards are given out by the Gospel Music Association. Winners will be announced April 26 in Nashville.
A real Kodac moment. Jimmy Carter’s son Chip and his new wife were serenaded by gravel voiced minstrel Kodac Harrison, when he, along with violinist Daniel Brown, recently played at Chip’s wedding. The bride marched in to the strains of Harrison’s “You Took the Loneliness” and the couple exited to “This Time (Let Love Lead the Way).” Ex-prez (and new Harrison fan) Jimmy even introduced the former tune.
Strange bedfellows. Legendary country thrush Dolly Parton covers Atlanta’s favorite arena rockers Collective Soul’s lighter-raising anthem “Shine” on her new traditional bluegrass album, Little Sparrow. The big-haired one says the song is “very spiritual and God-like to me.”
