Sharp Notes March 27 2002

LADIES ON THE MOVE. Bassist Erin Dangar is leaving the Moto-Litas after a final show Fri., March 29, at the Hard Rock Cafe. The ‘Litas plan to find a replacement soon, and while Dangar doesn’t rule out future music projects, for now she’ll concentrate on starting a family with husband Elliott Dangar of the Penetrators.

Mary Byrne is leaving her position as guitarist with the Bibles to focus on her other band, Shamgod, the fast-rising local quartet for which she sings lead in addition to playing guitar. Hal9000 guitarist Braxton O’Neal will replace her, beginning with the group’s March 29 show at 10 High.

Last but not least, Shonali Bhowmik, guitarist and singer for Ultrababyfat, is moving to New York — that is, once the group completes its upcoming tour, opening for comedian David Cross (coming to the Variety Playhouse June 15), and once it gets back into the studio this summer to record its next album. After that, she’s out of here. Except, she’ll be back to visit her man, local artist R. Land — maybe even dividing her time between Atlanta and New York at some point.

Ultrababyfat’s show Sat., March 30, at The Earl, serves as Bhowmik’s (eventually) going-away party, since it’ll likely be the last local club gig the band does for a long while.
