Deals on denim at Charlie's Tradin' Post

Sometimes it's hip to be square. And for over 50 years, the square and the hip have been scouring Charlie's Tradin' Post (aka The House of a Thousand Bargains) for everything from nightcrawlers to denim. Located directly across the street from the monumental federal pen, Charlie Bagwell has seen all walks of life enter his doors. Rumor has it that former inmates visit the shop after their release for some new duds perfect for re-entering society.

Known primarily as a bait and tackle shop, Charlie's carries an assortment of fishing rods, bobbers and lures. But for those of us who don't reel 'em in, the real draw is the jeans and bins of shirts and shoes that line the aisles.

Charlie isn't concerned with fashion. He carries the tried and true — Levis, Jordache, Wranglers and Dickies in a variety of styles and a vast range of sizes. And I do mean vast. Hung on the wall amongst the mounted stuffed birds, fox and other game, is a pair of 76 waist jeans. For real.

It's time to rack up on the bargains. For a whopping $50, I walked away with a pair of Jordache jeans (I may never wear them, but I couldn't pass it up), a pair of cute little retro running shorts, a three-pack of classic, white wife beaters (eternally hip), a pair of Asics Tiger wrestling high tops. And a football.

Not one to turn down a deal, I was tempted to buy a cool pair of striped sweatbands, some white galoshes, a camping tarp and a pair of overalls. But my shopping buddy reminded me that I wasn't Anna Kournikova, I only wear high-heels and "Hee-Haw" doesn't even rerun anymore.
