Allnight February 05 2004

A quick guide to what's happening in nightlife each week.

The Dope Show

JIM BREUER likes smokin' pot. That's pretty apparent if you saw Half Baked, "Saturday Night Live" or his stand-up act, which he brings to Funny Farm Comedy Club on Sat., Feb. 7. He eschews the glassy-eyed delivery of contemporaries such as Mitch Hedberg in favor of frenetic performances that include live heavy metal numbers backed by his band, Willie's Basement. Breuer's posturing (and screaming) can be grating, but dead-on impersonations of random celebrities (Joe Pesci, AC/DC's Brian Johnson) round out his act nicely. Funny Farm, 608 Holcomb Bridge Road, 770-817-HAHA. www.funny farmcomedyclub.com. (Andrew Stewart)

Not the USA Network Detective, but ...

Southeastern staple MONK is remembered by many from Florida's progressive breaks performance troupe Rabbit in the Moon. Thurs., Feb. 5, he plays a set that can effortlessly segue from the seismic sounds of hard house, funky Florida breaks and rolling drum 'n' bass to the more subtle yet seductive tribal-tech filter-funk. Green from the Garden

Producer PETE MOSS DJs a set bridging soul and synths, deep and tech house, for fans of cluttered yet crisp gyrating groove. The show on Fri., Feb. 6 includes opening sets by Jonathan Edwards and David Waterman. The Mark. 79 Poplar St., 678-904-0050. www.themarkatlanta.com (TW)That's Some Dashin' Fashion

"Callanwolde" sounds like the name of some ancient and storied British estate where Winston Churchill might have spent "the alcoholic years," retching and writing memoirs like only a former prime minister can. But it is really a local center for fine arts and fine gatherings. And they're hosting a fine FASHION SHOW on Tues., Feb. 10. The event will feature bridge games, a silent auction, and, finally, the unveiling of the latest spring line from clothing company Coldwater Creek. Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, 980 Briarcliff Road, 404-872-5338. www.callanwolde.org. (AS)
