George’s Restaurant & Bar

1041 N. Highland Ave

Imagine you get hungry while window-shopping in Virginia-Highland and you stop at George’s to get a burger. You’re instantly whisked away by a whirl of retro-adult contemporary sounds.

1) “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” - Starship: Played over the end credits to Mannequin, this ballad should get credit for launching Kim Cattrall’s career. Only a Peter Cetera song could inspire me more to learn karate and fight for some girl’s honor.

2) “Need You Tonight” - INXS: Now nearing 30, I recognize the value of being choked while beating off. We’ve all got a devil inside.

3) “Here I Go Again” - Whitesnake: This always seemed like the perfect theme song to a WWE wrestling has-beens montage. If I were ever kicked through a plate glass window, I’d want this song playing as I triumphantly left the hospital.

4) “Locomotion” - Kylie Minogue: Give me a leopard-spotted unitard and a ribbon on a stick and I would so totally break into a rhythmic gymnastics routine right now. But lunch is here, luckily.

5) “When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going” - Billy Ocean: Billy was slick like Corey Haim’s hair. You hear him and you dream a little dream of a breezy beach resort. Billy’s like the aural equivalent of a Corona ad. I thought I was eating a burger in Va-Hi, but my latitude is so changed.??
