HOST WITH THE MOST: DRES rocks the block party at the drop of a hat.

5. Jarren Benton: I like his stage energy and his concepts. He’s one of those rare MCs who thinks outside the box and conveys that in his lyrics. Duck Down BBQ showcase. Sat., Oct. 11. 2 p.m. Old Fourth Ward Main Stage.

4. Forte Bowie: One of the most versatile musicians/rappers ATL has seen in a long time. Passion & Confusion showcase. Wed., Oct. 8. 8 p.m. The Music Room; BMI’s Know Them Now showcase. Thurs., Oct. 9. 8 p.m. The Earl; Fly Kix showcase. Sat., Oct. 11. 8 p.m. 3rd St. Armory Front Stage.

3. iLLmont: Demo quality greatness. The production isn’t as polished due to the DIY approach to the music, but the jewels and the gems are there. A3C Goes Beyond the Hype. Fri., Oct. 10. 12:30 a.m. The Arts Exchange.

2. Brown Bag AllStars: I watched them rock A3C last year when they opened for Pharoahe Monch and Ghostface Killah. I’m thoroughly impressed by their energy, and it takes me back to a time in hip-hop when lyrics and presentation really mattered. They’re making quality music, without bowing to record label pressure. Sat., Oct. 11. 8 p.m. The Music Room.

1. Rapsody: She’s one of the most lyrically gifted MCs of this generation that I’ve seen so far. Don’t miss her. 9th Wonder presents Jamla showcase. Fri., Oct. 10. 10:30 p.m. 3rd St. Armory Front Stage.

DRES tha BEATnik hosts the second annual Best Block Party Ever. Sun., Oct. 12. 2 p.m. Old Fourth Ward Main Stage, 447 Edgewood Ave. S.E.
