Black Kids

Partie Traumatic

Black Kids made a blogger-drenching splash on the Internet last year – even though they had only a free EP (Wizard of Ahhhs) to their name. The Jacksonville, Fla., group was quickly signed to Columbia Records and put together its debut, Partie Traumatic, fairly quickly. Everything their fans liked about the EP is here, from the intelligent musings on love and sex to sharp electro beats and choruses that sound equally ecstatic on iPods and in packed clubs. Reggie Youngblood’s songwriting is still too focused on getting laid but one suspects his style will evolve. Having recorded and toured for much of the past year, he’s surely got plenty of new stories for the band’s next album. 3 stars
