East of Underground

East of Underground

East of Underground may be a better-kept secret than Area 51. Forged in the depths of the Vietnam War and produced by the U.S. Army itself, the album remained in obscurity, shrouded by the billowing smoke of war, until a single 12-inch was found in an office on a U.S. Army base in Germany. Consisting of the winners of the 1971 Army servicemen’s Showband Contest, the 12-track CD is full of soulful vocals and clean guitar riffs, acting as a cultural liaison to the thoughts, feelings and music of our soldiers during one of America’s most controversial and turbulent wars. The album is a testament to all the talented men and women swept into everlasting obscurity by the brutal onset of global conflict. 4 stars.
