Heathered Pearls: Loyal

Ghostly International

Brian Eno once defined ambient music as being "designed to induce calm and space to think." Heathered Pearls' debut album, Loyal, does just that. Composed of pretty and unwavering stretches of synth loops, the songs themselves often disappear into the background, doing justice to Erik Satie's coinage of the phrase "furniture music." Jakub Alexander, best known as the driving force behind Heathered Pearls, is the musical curator of the IS050 blog, which focuses its attention on elegant music and design. His editorial tendencies show through in Loyal, where he strips each number down to a pure and sparse composition. Rolling melodies are unencumbered by beats or knobby disturbances, which, in the end, provide for a peaceful backdrop to your daily routine. (4 out of 5 stars)
