Poop in the Hooch website shutting down

The days are numbered for the U.S. Geological Survey’s E. coli testing program for the Chattahoochee River.

Funding for the water sampling and the website that lists the test results will run out Sept. 30.

Until then, Web surfers can visit the site — http://ga2.er.usgs.gov/bacteria/ — to see how many E. coli colonies are in the river. On June 26, for instance, USGS employees found 421 colonies in a single milliliter from a Paces Ferry water sample. Humans can get sick when colony counts are more than 236 per milliliter, according to the website.

The program was a test run from the beginning, but USGS and National Park Service officials had hoped higher-ups would fund it permanently.

So if you come down with diarrhea, maybe you’ll have someone to blame.??
