Congrats to us

Creative Loafing won four awards — including two first places — in the Southeast’s largest journalism contest, the Green Eyeshade awards, which were announced Saturday.

Film and visual arts critic Felicia Feaster took home two awards. She won first place for criticism for her collection of work in 2003. And she placed third in the feature-writing category for her April 2003 story, “Girl Disconnected,” which chronicled the late Atlanta artist Gretchen Hupfel’s struggles with schizophrenia.

Staff photographer Jim Stawniak also took home a first-place award for his body of work in 2003.

Columnist Andisheh Nouraee was awarded second place in the humor commentary category for Don’t Panic, his weekly dissection of the war on terror.

Both Stawniak and Feaster are previous Green Eyeshade winners. Last year, Stawniak took home a second-place award for his photography. In 2001, Feaster was the recipient of a second-place award for her film reviews.

The Green Eyeshades are given annually by the Society of Professional Journalists for print and broadcast stories published and aired in 11 Southeastern states. Creative Loafing competed in the weekly/monthly category.
