The Blotter October 22 2008

THE SKY IS FALLING: At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, a California man said he was looking at an arrival/departure screen on Concourse B, when something struck him in the forehead. An officer investigated and determined that the object that hit the man was a small, white, round object. It apparently fell from a light fixture above him. The man complained of a forehead injury and medics treated him. He refused to go to a hospital because he had a flight to catch.

BARGAIN BABE: A woman nicknamed “Shorty Red” allegedly flagged down an undercover cop on Cleveland Avenue. She allegedly offered to have sex with the undercover cop for $30. According to the police report, Shorty Red has tattoos on her face, neck, both arms and right leg. Also, she has long, red hair and wore a red shirt. The 31-year-old woman was charged with soliciting sex.

HIGH-PRICED BABE: An officer was working an undercover operation in the lobby of a hotel on Atlantic Drive, in response to reports of prostitution in the bar lobby. He said he encountered a 30-year-old woman in the lobby and struck up a conversation. “While talking to her, she offered her escorting services (including sex and fetishes). She stated she would provide these services for two hours for $800 cash.” She told the officer to go to the ATM to make sure he had all the money agreed upon. She was arrested for soliciting sex.

X MARKS THE SPOT: On Little Street, a 28-year-old man said his ex-girlfriend was spotted stabbing his tire with a knife and breaking his side-view mirror on his white Chevy Suburban. He said this is the third time the ex-girlfriend has been spotted near his car — the first two times she was writing down his tag info and apparently trying to reach him by cell phone. “She is reported to be 7 and a half months pregnant with issues,” the officer wrote.

AIRPORT SMACKDOWN: A 25-year-old woman said she was assaulted while working at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. She said she works for a food vendor, and one morning she was assigned to service a Delta airplane. She said a flight attendant had a problem with how she was filling the juice and soda bins. The woman said she told the flight attendant that she was filling the bins in accordance with her company’s policies. She said the flight attendant got upset and pushed her. She said she felt violated by the flight attendant putting her hands on her.

ACTIVE IMAGINATION? A 43-year-old man said he was kidnapped in a parking lot outside West End Mall. He said he was eating at a restaurant and two men in their mid-20s were being disrespectful and he said something about it to them. The man said when he walked to his wife’s car (which he was driving), the two men got into the car and threatened to kill him if he didn’t get them $1,000. He said he gave them $400 cash. Then, he said, they drove him to an ATM to withdraw $300. He said one suspect, “Weezy” went with him to the ATM inside a gas station, but he didn’t see a gun. “While in the store he never yelled for help or attempted to flee because he was ‘afraid’ of the consequences,” an officer wrote.

He said the suspects then took him to an apartment complex near Morehouse College, where he was held hostage, although he was not assaulted, tied up, or restrained. He said an older man named “Unc” came in, and the suspects smoked a lot of “blacks and milds.” He said the suspects said once he gave them $1,000 he would be free to go. The next day, he said, they drove him to another ATM to withdraw another $300 – so the suspects had a total of $1,000. He said the suspects ordered him to crawl inside the trunk of his own car – and later, he escaped with his own keys. “He claimed his Blackberry cell phone was dead, but when we checked it, it worked just fine and made calls without any problems.” Police were suspicious about many aspects of the man’s story. So they called his wife. She said her husband has done this sort of thing several times and had flimsy excuses for his disappearances every time. Police determined that no crime had been committed, and that the man wasn’t telling the truth.

OFFICER CHASING doughnuts: At a gas station on Cleveland Avenue, the owner said a woman stole a box of mini-doughnuts and ran out of the store. The officer searched the area and found a 41-year-old woman clutching a box of doughnuts. The gas station owner identified her and she went to jail for theft.
