Talk of the Town - Chillin’ November 27 2002

Way back when, strapping on two thin steel blades and shooting around a sheet of man-made ice was one of those stupid things guys did to test their manhood. Of course, these days, you’d have to do it wearing nothing but flaming underwear a la Jackass for it qualify as risky. But, hey, whatever gets you going.

But if all you’re looking for is a peaceful time — and maybe a few bumps and bruises — under the open sky, Centennial Olympic Park is your only chance to ice skate outdoors in Atlanta. Part of the 21-acre park’s Holiday in Lights festival, the 60-by-92-foot rink features theatrical lighting, covered seating and ’80s music nights. Ice-skating to “Karma Chameleon” — who’d a thunk it?
