On Mon., April 11, Mayor Shirley Franklin, among others, will speak on protecting and improving Atlanta’s parks. The conference, hosted by nonprofit group Park Pride, will focus on getting the private sector involved in park-building and greenspace preservation; it also will offer break-out sessions on topics such as organizing your own back yard. Keynote speaker Wellington Webb, former mayor of Denver, will discus how he oversaw the creation of more parkland than any American mayor, building 15 parks and working to transform the city’s old airport into a mixed-use development with more than 1,400 acres of parkland.
