See & Do - Visual art: Kung Fu January 08 2010

Tues., Jan. 19

Unlike the fuzzy fan art of most cult television shows, SCAD instructor Todd Schroeder’s new exhibition KUNG FU presents the artist’s appreciation for the ’70s television show of the same name, as well as its star, the late, great David Carradine. The actor’s mysterious death in Bangkok last year prompted the concept behind Schroeder’s exhibition, which honors Carradine’s “Kung Fu” character Kwai Chang Caine, the Shaolin monk who flees Chinese authorities to the American West after avenging the death of his teacher. Schroeder’s exhibition focuses not just on “Grasshopper” but on the other roles inhabited by the legendary actor in his lifetime. Through Feb. 19. Free. Jan. 14, 7-9 p.m.; gallery hours by appointment. Gallery Stokes, 261 Walker St. 678-770-7812. www.gallerystokes.com.
