See & Do - Short List May 18 2009

Decatur Arts Festival, Ponytail and more

May 23 Saturday
Baltimore’s PONYTAIL plays primitive and elated pop music that purrs with energy giddy to the point of being deranged. Like its West Coast brethren Deerhoof, the group’s vocalist Molly Siegel yelps and chatters a cartoonishly infectious set of hyper coos and melodies that don’t quite fall under the heading of punk, but are so strange and so much fun that they don’t really fit anywhere else. Judi Chicago and Nomen Novum also perform. $8. 10 p.m. 529, 529 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-228-6769. www.529atl.com. (Chad Radford)
