See & Do - Sports: Peachtree Road Race June 26 2009

Sat., July 4

From its humble beginnings in 1970 as a group of 110 runners, the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION PEACHTREE ROAD RACE has grown into the largest 10K in the world. This year, 55,000 participants line up to try their hand at crossing the finish line and nabbing a coveted Peachtree T-shirt. Runners will rejoice to learn the finish line has returned to Piedmont Park after last year’s drought forced the race to end at the intersection of Juniper Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue. The race has transformed from a beloved Fourth of July tradition into a holiday celebration just as near and dear to Atlanta’s heart as fireworks and cookouts. Although registration has closed, spectators are encouraged to cheer on the runners. Free. 7:30 a.m. See website for location details. www.atlantatrackclub.org.
