Arts Agenda - French kiss

Théatre du Rêve continues its mission of presenting French plays in French with Le Mariage Forcé, aka The Forced Marriage. Although Théatre du Réve has offered five previous French-language productions (including The Bald Soprano, No Exit and Antigone), this is its first comedy by Moliere, arguably France’s greatest dramatist.

Artistic director Carolyn Cook directs the show, envisioned as taking place on a classic commedia dell’arte stage, with some more contemporary flourishes. Chris Kayser stars as aging bachelor Sganarelle, who has chosen young Dorimene (Park Krausen) as his intended bride. Joel Reuben Ganz, Adam Fristoe and Angus Whyte portray multiple roles that complicate Sganarelle’s plans.

Théatre du Réve’s production of Le Mariage Forcé promises to give Little Five Points a little of that Parisian je ne sais qoi. For the opening night premiere and reception on April 20, call the Alliance Francaise at 404-875-1211.
